Um, but he said he's in orbit around a supernova, so he just kind of... made it burn up quicker? If that was the case (meaning that particular sun was already a supernova), there obviously wasn't any life on any of the planets. He just chose his words like that to be ~romantic~.
He was such a pacifist and against killing in every situation that a mass murder just like that would've been terribly OC anyway.

This is all well and good, but the fact remains that the Doctor did this for nobody else. And before you bring out the “OMG TRU LUVS” arguments, what about Romana? You can’t deny that there was something there, but he didn’t do a magic TARDIS trick to talk to her in E-space. Let’s face it, RTD just wanted an excuse to turn the Doctor into this romanticised mess, and separating the two of them was the only feasible way he could do it.
